Can I do the injections myself?
The injectable drugs we use during the ovarian stimulation phase are all subcutaneous, that is, under the skin, using a very small needle. The procedure is relatively painless. After a demonstration by the doctor or nurse, all women can do their own injections on their own, without losing time in their daily lives.
How many days will I inject?
It depends on the stimulation protocol selected. In the short protocol, about 10-14 days, and in the long protocol about 20-25 days.
How many days should I stay out of work?
On the day of egg laying you should stay home, as well as the day of the embryo transfer. Post-embryo transfer, limited mobility has not been shown to increase success rates. However, we recommend staying home for a maximum of 2-3 days, mainly for psychological reasons.
Do I have to lie down after the embryo transfer?
No. Bedding does not help implantation. Avoiding vigorous physical activity is enough. It is also advisable to avoid sexual intercourse for a few days, although no negative association has been shown.
Are IVS drugs dangerous?
The drugs used in IVF have now reached more than 25 years of clinical application and no studies appear to increase the chance of breast, ovarian, uterine or liver cancer. Although there is a cloud of doubt about “injections” and “hormones”, IVF medications are safe.
Do the drugs affect the eggs positively or negatively?
No. Medicines do not appear to improve the quality of the eggs or increase their number. All they do is help to evenly ripen those eggs in the ovary in the particular woman’s circle, which would be destroyed anyway. For this reason, the response is better in young women with high ovarian competence, and poorer or nil as we approach the end of reproductive age. Consequently, egg stocks do not decrease faster with IVF, nor does menopause occur earlier.
If an attempt fails, when can I try again?
After stimulation with medication, a period of 2-3 months must elapse before the attempt can be repeated. But in the case of the natural cycle, this is not necessary. Of course, additional tests should always be considered, which may be good after an unsuccessful attempt, as well as the psychological state of the couple.
